Lasagna

First visit here and it was spectacular. My wife and I didn't know it was a limited menu because of the Valentine's Day weekend, with the intention of trying a lasagna, but it was so much better than we anticipated. Great recommendations from the staff and pairings were awesome. We tried a Bronx Pollo Parmigiana and it was incredible. Met the owner Ben and treated us as a member of the family. Encouraged us to come back and try the full menu and would love to have us again. Will definitely come back for a taste of everything.

Me and my family came here for my sisters birthday and it was the best! There was a wait but that is to be expected at such a good restaurant, the food came in a reasonable time and the lasagna was the BEST i ever had in my whole life!

This Quaint restaurant hidden on the busy Huebner street is WORTH the stop! We started coming as a family on New Years Eve and it felt like we were walking into a family’s home! Everyone is always so welcoming and friendly! But that’s not even the best part! The food is INCREDIBLE!! My favorite is the Bronx Parmigiano and the Lasagna but haven’t had a bad experience! Welcome Home!! Is the motto and they live up to it!

New favorite Italian. Had the crab & shrimp cake appetizer. Best crab cake I ever had. The lobster ravioli and the lasagna were both excellent. The service was excellent; very attentive but not overly so. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu.

Been meaning to come by sooner. Glad we finally made it, dad we didn't do it sooner. Had the ravioli, top notch, no notes unless you're allergic, get this. The missus had the lasagna, which got a "mmmm" after each bite which if your ask me is the highest praise. We started the meal with the Stracciatella which was the best recommendation from our server. Overall come eat here. Thank me later

Amazing atmosphere. The place was decked out for Christmas with garland everywhere and a large tree in the middle of the room. The organ decor is unique and comforting. And the food! This is one of few places we have found a thin Italian lasagna noodle like you would get in Italy. I didn’t check their website, but the most make their pasta in house. My wife had the lasagna and I had the Bronx chicken parm - this had table side mozzarella drizzled over the dish from a frying pan. Great presentation. The staff are congenial and you don’t wait long for anything. They all wear the US flag on their T-shirt. The manager came by and said hello to every table. My tiramisu was a delight. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious, authentic Italian food. The marinara sauce was amazing. We ordered the lasagna and Bronx chicken smothered in their cheese sauce. Insanely good. Highly recommend!

Celebrating my 73rd birthday at this Italian restaurant was one of the best dining experiences I've had in quite a while. The hospitality was topnotch. I got there much earlier than the rest of my party so I offered to wait in my car to avoid tying up a table others could use. The hostesses, Selena & Brenna (sorry if I got her name wrong) graciously invited me to come inside, offered me a seat, a menu, and something to drink. It was late afternoon so the place wasn't full yet but that changed pretty quickly. When the rest of my party of five arrived, they were warmly welcomed like we had been there many times before (all of us were first-time guests). The owner, Prince, came by and welcomed us, assuring us that we are to be treated like family & if something we ordered didn't live up to our expectations, they will do their best to make it right. Another gentleman came by later during our meal to check on us. Now, let's talk about the food. For appetizers, we had the calamari, crabcakes, & insalata caprese. Those were gone in no time, a flavorful introduction to luscious meal. Each of us ordered something different so we could all have a taste of each other's dish. Between us, we had the lamb chops (tender & well-seasoned), the squid ink pasta (uncommon fare but very tasty), the Chicken Piccata, & the Fettucini di Parma (both delicious & quite filling, making our tummies gurgle with joy). I had the Sole Oregenata, a sweet, flaky fish served over asparagus risotto, with scallops added on the side). That was so perfectly done I would order it again next time. Of course, we had to make room for dessert. We shared cheesecake Biscoff, blueberry cheesecake, & cannolis. My tiramisu came with a candle and a Happy Birthday song sung in Italian. All were so rich & flavorful, a perfect ending to a perfect meal. Shout out to our server, who introduced herself as 'Melania as in lasagna". She checked on us frequently, refilled our water many times over, & took care of our every need. A wonderful time was had by all! Thank you!

Italian food is very common, so it is hard to stand out. However, Mare e Monte got it right. We’ve had the Lasagna, Gnocchi, Ravioli and Risotto. Outstanding flavor, consistency and presentation. Food is prepared fresh, and I think the flavor is reflective of this. Italian food looks simple, but it’s in such simplicity that details matter and what makes authentic Italian food so palatable. I can therefore tell that details are not overlooked, and that’s what makes this restaurant’s food so special. To make the experience even better, the service is also outstanding. Again, no details are spared, making you feel at home, the way Trattorias are in Italy. Good things are there to be enjoyed, Mare e Monte is one of them.

I honestly walked in here expecting it to be overhyped and served with mediocre food. HOWEVER it was definitely the opposite. We were greeted by the owner which was so cool and our server LASAGNA LADY really look care of us. They gave us bread, brought out water without asking and really made us feel comfortable... Food was absolutely delicious and every single staff member was seen smiling as long as with all the other customers there... SUSPICIOUSLY a good experience... Did I trip and hit my head and I'm in a fairytale right now? What are the odds you find a good restaurant that cares about an experience anymore with a customer connection. NONE. This place really blew my mind and my taste buds. God bless you Prince you are very charismatic and God bless you as well Pasta Lady. Unfortunately we aren't from here so the chances for coming back to San Antonio are low but if we do, this place is definitely a must stop for us as we enjoyed the whole experience and we love pasta. This is definitely up there for the best pasta I ever had. Thank you.

In my 55 years and visiting many restaurants this is the friendliest owner and staff I have encountered. Joe was amazing. One of the best waiters I have had. The Caesar dressing is amazing. The bread is so good. And the lasagna was amazing. We will definitely be going back many times in the future.

Went tonight, 2nd time, we love this place. Staff is great, food is amazing and with 2 young kids we always feel welcome. Tonight I had the crispy chicken piccata which was 12/10 a the artichokes were a chefs kiss. Hubby had lasagna with meatball, it was good- although I think he prefers the lobster ravioli from the first time we visited. Kids catered to with spaghetti options. Bread was warm. We had Alize serve us tonight and she was wonderful. Manager walking around saying “welcome home” is always warm. One of our highly recommended spots for sure! Favorite Italian hands down.

Edit: I tried the Pollo Bronx Parmigana. It was delicious! I'm disappointed that a salad isn't included in a $30 meal.I will def try more menu items in the future. Original: I was super excited to try this place. I ordered a Caesar salad and lasagna. The salad dressing was delicious and the portion was generous. The lasagna, unfortunately was cold. It reminded me of a meal that was warmed up in the microwave and wasn't heated thoroughly. I only ate half. I would like to try this place again with all the positive reviews but the first impression was not positive.

When my usual lunch spot was closed, I tried Mare e Monte next door — and I’m glad I did. The lasagna Bolognese was rich, hearty, and clearly scratch-made, the kind of dish you can tell took real time and care. The bread with olive oil was a nice start (though the butter I requested showed up after the lasagna — a small service slip considering there were several staff and a manager on the floor). I added a side meatball — excellent flavor, veal, homemade — but for the price, it felt a little out of balance. To their credit, the manager asked for feedback, comped it, and I suggested either making it bigger, making it two, or folding it into the lasagna at a slightly higher plate price. Overall: food was delicious, service was attentive, and I’ll definitely return for more of that lasagna. As for the solo side meatball? Let’s just say… it needs a wingman.

Wonderful staff. Bad, over priced Italian food. Our best dish was the appetizer (Carciofi al Tartufo). The salad dressing on the insalata primavera is just oil. The lasagna is just cheese/sauce/pasta. The waiter encouraged my wife to add meat balls to it only to have the single meat ball to be raw in the middle. The chicken piccata tasted like store bought breaded chicken bathed in oil. No one was ecstatic about their meal. We won’t be coming back.

My sister and brother in law and I went for lunch today. Absolutely the BEST homemade lasagna and tiramisu I’ve ever had! Jace was an INCREDIBLY great and kind waiter! I will definitely go back soon!

Mare E Monte is a benchmark Italian experience that cannot be found elsewhere in the Alamo city. Our captain for the evening, Joe, perfectly blended superb customer service with warm and genuine engagement. The food is divine and matched with expert wine pairings. Underneath the splendid layers of fresh lasagna and bolognese, there is a lot of rich history to the place as well. But I won’t ruin it for you here, instead, discover that on your own after you speak with the owner. 10/10. Thanks guys!

The ambiance and the service were excellent. We did love the bread, alfredo (creamy) and the lasagna. The black pasta needs a bit of salt for me. I know it’s supposed to be light But overall, the place is really great.

Had an amazing experience eating an early dinner at Mare e Monte. Greated at the door like I was like I was visiting an old friend after years apart. Adriatic shrimp had the perfect amount of spice, and the lasagna was spot on with a generous portion.

Food is great , Service even better and atmosphere is warm inviting and relaxed… until you add my two crazy boys haha Joe made sure to recommend the most ordered and loved plates and was very attentive (although we didn’t listen to his recs) . We ordered chicken and shrimp Alfredo for the boys (missed the creamy/milky-ness of it) but over all tasty. Chicken piccata is a great portion and got a gluten free pasta option on the side (thankful for that) but also was missing something, not sure what exactly. Hubs got lasagna and a side of eggplant parm which were both sooooo delicious, I think the Homemade tomato sauce makes everything better. House wine paired great with our meals so over all will come back again. Maybe we just need to have a date night without our kids to enjoy it all much more.

Best Italian food I’ve had outside of Italy! My neighbors and I went here on a Tuesday night after reading the great reviews online! It was amazing! The Chicken Picatta, the Lasagna with meatballs, and the Asparagus fries were all so delicious! The staff was also very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be coming back and can’t wait to try all of the other menu items!

I honestly don’t know how this place has 4.9 stars. I got the Bronx pollo and I was served dry noodles with no sauce and it seemed like they use jalapeños were straight from the can with a slice of cheese on top. We also ordered calamari and the lasagna and it wasn’t flavorful, it was more cheese than anything.

This was our first time here and the Fettucini Alfredo with Chicken was amazing 🤩 Unfortunately, there was no Lasagna but the Owner & Chef Loriq made up for it with his very personable and polite attention. The Cesar Salad to split was large and very tasty 😋 I would recommend you come to this establishment as the food & customer service alone is rare. 🤗

Lasagna sold out. Bread served in old rusty tin cans w/ tissue. Waiter tried to have us order the expensive menu item. Soda cans are $4.00 each! Nonsense! Not impressed.

Had lunch at Mare e Monte today and it was an exceptional dining experience. First time there. We had the calamari, appetizer, with stuffed veal and lasagna with meatball for our entrees. All items were skillfully prepared and were excellent. Really enjoyed the taste, ambiance, and service of our lunch. Mira, our server, was knowledgeable, courteous, and a credit to her profession. We will definitely be returning there and I'd recommend Mare e Monte to anyone looking for great Italian food in a very welcoming environment.

Everything was absolutely delicious. I personally ordered the lasagna, and my family tried different pasta dishes — all of them were exquisite. The desserts were phenomenal as well, the perfect way to end the meal. And the cherry on top was the outstanding service. Our waiter, Joe, was fantastic — a great guy who provided excellent service throughout. Highly recommended!

Got take out tonight. Ordered meatballs, fettuccine and lasagna. Meatballs are tiny and over priced. Too much red pepper flavor. The sauce is more peppers and onions than red sauce. Lasagna was mushy…not sure if there were no noodles or they were way overcooked and there was way too much cheese. I love cheese but this was like a brick of cheese. The Parmesan had a funky taste. The bread was stale. $65 for this?? Very disappointed.

First time but not the last time! Went basic with the lasagna (which was fantastic) but there are so many other delicious options to try. The sole is apparently a house specialty. Spicy calamari also a hit!

Now all the 5 star reviews make perfect sense. We were greeted by the sweetest host and each and every person who worked there that we came in contact with truly made us feel like they were so happy we were there. Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Not only was the service impressive but the FOOD! We had the lasagna with meat sauce and pollo parmigiana- Delicious! Everything tasted so fresh and cooked to perfection. Dessert- Blueberry Cheesecake was to die for and Tiramisu was so light and perfectly sweetened. We will absolutely be back!

Found this restaurant by accident, and we’re so glad we did. Our server Joshua was very helpful in explaining the menu and recommendations. We ordered calamari, Caesar salad, Bronx parmigiana, lasagna, and Sole w/risotto. All the food was delicious. I highly recommend this spot.

We came to Mare e Monte at 11:15 on the Saturday after Valentine's Day. Their dining area is split between more intimate 2 person tables and larger tables for bigger parties near the bar. We were seated immediately. They started us with some wood fired bread and oil that was perfectly cooked and warm. The owner came out to welcome us and let us know that we should treat it like we're family and ask for anything we want. We started with the Caesar salad and calamari which were both great. They were out of lasagna, but we ended up getting the lobster ravioli and pasta al nero with scallops. Both were outstanding. For dessert we tried the house made blueberry cheesecake and cannolis. Wow they were great. Service was extremely attentive. Food was perfect. Atmosphere was good. Highly recommend. More folks were arriving as we were leaving and parking was filling up. I think we picked a good time.

Still the Best Italian restaurant in San Antonio I have found. This time I had the pork chop with figs. Incredible! My wife loved the lasagna and our guests raved about their ceasar salad. The waitstaff was warm and attentive and the owner is always welcoming and gracious.

Visited on Christmas night. Our server Jace was very attentive and kind. I ordered the lasagna and it was delicious. My daughter had the gnocchi with burrata on top and she really enjoyed it. The Caesar salad was very large and we shared that. Overall it was a great first experience and we will be back!

Beautiful restaurant. I took my mom here for lunch. The service is top notch! I had the Bronx pollo parmigiana.This my favorite dish. My mom had lasagna. We shared the grilled artichokes and fried artichokes. Tiramisu for dessert.Everything was delicious.

We had asparagus, seafood risotto, lasagna and everything was excellent. For dessert we had pecan pie with ice cream on top. Enough for 2 people and more. The staff is excellent very attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for Christmas. A really great place, best food in town. We highly recommend it.

The lasagna has the absolute best marinara sauce ever, not too acidic, lots of umami, just incredibly delicious, great pasta and filling also. The tiramisu is also incredible. I’ve never tasted one to top theirs. It is prepared by their in-house pastry chef.

This was our 2nd visit. First time was date night. Tonight our kids were hime from college and needed a great meal. Mare e Monte is perfect for both! Very warm, welcoming staff, and the owner is hands on and gracious. We requested carbonara (off menu) and were told it was no problem. It was excellent, and the lasagna is better than my mom's. We will definitely be back.

We really liked the lasagna and meatball appetizer. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was nice. We did feel the prices were a bit too high for not much food. We do not recommend the tiramisu dessert.

I ordered the Pasta Al Nero and was blown away by the black pasta. It was a perfect combination of garlic, shrimp, and spices. Highly recommend. I’ve never had anything like it! My parents had the Salmone Al Forno and they also absolutely loved it. My son ordered the lasagna and he also enjoyed it. This is a family run restaurant where you walk in and feel like you’re family. The service is as good as it gets!

Our family loved everything about this lovely restaurant. Each of the 3 dishes we enjoyed were all delicious‐ we had the lasagna, lobster ravioli with veal & Pollo ala picatta & we all highly recommend. It was extra special to celebrate a birthday with a tasty dessert of tiramisu. If you're gluten free, you MUST try their gluten free bread. It's amazing. Such a nice neighborhood gem! Absolutely lovely service and staff. Calamari was very pillowy and piccatta was delish. Lasagna was a little salty but the meatballs were amazing. Also recommend the lemon blueberry tart for dessert.

Food is wonderful. Large portions! I’ll be eating on this For three days! I had the risotto in with shrimp. Perfectly cooked, and the shrimp had a very unique wonderful taste. My husband had the lasagna and it was to die for! The service is magnificent atmosphere is sexy. You will enjoy this place.

This was our first time at Mare e Monte and it did not disappoint. The service was phenomenal. Jesse, our server went above and beyond to make sure that we were very well taken care of from offering to make every order to our liking. We started off with Calamari arriabiatta, then a ceasar salad and lasagna, which was my favorite. Prince, the owner, also greeted every guest with a warm welcome and was very friendly. In a time where good service is hard to find, this restaurant really knows how to make you feel special.

Mare E Monte is by far the best Italian restaurant I’ve experienced in San Antonio anywhere really for that matter having lived in Italy while my husband was stationed there I can confidently say that this restaurant offers authentic Italian cuisine the penna vodka and lasagna were some of the best I’ve ever had. The owner is incredibly genuine and clearly cares deeply about his customers which is evident in both his interactions and the way he runs his business. The servers were attentive and made sure we were well taken care of throughout our dining experience I absolutely recommend our DeMonte to anyone seeking an exceptional Italian meal. my family and I will definitely be back…bravo

Zerina is an excellent server and is very very kind. The atmosphere is so nice and we were constantly checked on to make sure everything is okay. No wonder this place has 5 stars. The Lobster Ravioli, lasagna, & calamari was amazzzingg!! Will definitely recommend & come back!

What a great place to eat delicious Italian food! The lasagna was next level. Great service and tasty food with reasonable prices.

First off, I was really looking forward to coming to try this new restaurant based on the reviews. The service was impeccable and very attentive. The interior atmosphere was wonderful with the illuminated moon and styling set the mood. The complimentary wine was a great gesture and much appreciated. At the end of the meal they provide a QR code to leave a review… but I cannot justly give a 5 star review based on the quality of the meals we received. As we were disappointed to say the least. The chicken on the piccata was very over done with little to no sauce to accompany the swapped out pasta for vegetables. The lasagna had little to no meat or much of anything between the layers of pasta. It was very bland. I had to send meatballs back and chose not to eat the second one as both were undercooked in the middle.

This is probably one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. It started with the bread, which was very fresh and delicious. My friends and I had the meatball appetizer and loved it. I had the lasagna, which couldn't have been better. I was disappointed when I walked out of the restaurant and realized that I wasn't in fact in a small Italian seaside town, but actually a shopping center on Huebner.

Our first time here, My fiancé and myself were a little hesitant about staying because we ask for lasagna but they were out of it, we decide on a different plate and...WOW!! we definitely forgot about the lasagna!!, both of our choices were delicious, superb flavor. We're definitely coming back and we will recommend Mare to our friends.

The staff and owner, Prince, are all so welcoming and friendly. We shared Calamari and a salad, our main courses: the lasagna, the pollo dish, and the mushroom ravioli. Everything was cooked to perfection. We had the dessert of the day which was their version of a banana pudding, it was fantastic, not too sweet and full of flavor.

I will never go anywhere else for italian food. The place is decorated beautiful and you really feel like you can connect with your partner at dinner. The owners were right there checking that everything is to our liking which was a nice surprise. I had a insalata caprese to start off, omg best salad EVER. BURRATA was perfection with the fig jam. My fiancee had the Caesar and it was done to perfection. Neither salad was not drowned in salad dressing like most places. For my entree I had Pasta al Nero which is had black pasta from scratch. LOVED IT! My fiancee had traditional lasagna and he said he has never had anything like it except from his mom. The have an in house pastry chef so I tried the white chocolate strawberry tiramsui and it was out of this world. Will def be going back and recommend it over any other place here in san antonio saying their fresh Italian food.

Had Calamari Arribiata as appetizer then ceasar salad and entrees of Lasagna and Pasta al Nero. Both were excellent! Will definitely be back. Love the atmosphere and decor especially the moon which the owner said they did all themselves. Have only been open less than 2 months but will do well!

We saw a recent local news story featuring this restaurant and all that was reported was great, so we decided to try it. To start with the staff are all extremely attentive and professional. The overall ambience is comfortable and relaxing. The had the Shrimp Oreganata which are shrimp cooked in a butter, garlic and white wine sauce. It was delicious. I had the lasagna with a beef and veal meatball on the side. It was one of the best lasagnas I've ever had and the meatball made it even better. Why go the the noisy chain restaurants when we have locally owned small businesses that will provide you with a wonderful and intimate dining experience. We will definitely be returning.

Service was amazing! Food was yummy. The lasagna was soo good. I was worried the restaurant was over hyped but it really is amazing. I'd 100% come back.

I had a pretty good Pasta al Nero, and my brother had a good lasagna. Good food for the price.

Dinner at Mare E Monte last night after having had lunch there about 10 days ago. The ambiance and service here is fantastic. The owner is very attentive and friendly as well. On first visit, I had lasagna, which was excellent. Last night, we started with their caprese salad, which was a different variation on caprese but absolutely amazing and probably the most tasty we have had. My entree was the Bronx Chicken Parm, which was excellently prepared but be aware it is spicy. My wife had the Sole Oreganato, which she thought was one of her favorite fish dishes ever, delicate but complex. We finished with a very good affogato for dessert. I highly recommend this new restaurant!

We went to Male E Monte last night for my wife’s birthday. The owner made us feel so welcome, almost like family. Truly a kind person and the kind of restauranteur who deserves your hard earned money. The ambiance is lovely for being located in a newer strip mall. Felt classy and intimate with mood lighting on the table, and white table cloths. The food was excellent, and in my opinion priced too low for what it was. The complimentary bread was fresh and warm, and the herbed olive oil was alive with rosemary. The grilled artichoke appetizer was wonderful, with contrasting temperatures, flavors and textures. For our entree, my wife had the chicken parm which was amazing. It does have some heat to it, so if you’re sensitive to spice I would consider choosing a different menu item. We found it to be perfect and delicious. I had the lamb chops. The lamb was cooked to my preferred temperature, with a great sear and a nice clean flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were an excellent pairing. We took a lasagna to go for my mother who couldn’t join us, and it was delicious as well. They included some bread which was a nice touch. Finally, a complimentary dessert to end the evening was beautiful. If you love Italian food, PLEASE go experience Mare E Monte. They just opened 3 weeks ago and they deserve your patronage. We will absolutely be back!

As of this posting (4/26/24) this little Italian joint has been open for about a month. Right away, the ambiance is light and airy, gives the impression of a larger restaurant. The music volume is right on and the welcoming & hospitality from the management and staff is wonderful; they make you feel right at home. The white linen table cloths & clean utensils make it upscale. The food. I had the lasagna, it's rather extraordinary. You should check this place out while it's still a best kept secret.

Food was fantastic. Has a nice, authentic flavor. Quaint atmosphere and super friendly service. Lasagna with a meatball (in photo) was delicious and so filling.

fresh made food from local providers, ignite the smells that induce the tastebuds towards perfection. started with the fried ravioli, followed up with the most awesome lasagna, and finished with the strawberry tiramisu and americano. a must stop

We had such a great time tonight eating some of the best Italian food. We got the lobster ravioli and lasagna… and my goodness it was so amazing. My fiancé and I considered keeping this place as our little secret but we couldn’t help but tell our friends and family already.
