This place has delicious fettuccine grilled chicken pasta. The bread and oil was delicious as well. Will definitely go again.
Revisit -
Double Wow! This place is fantastic, the food is outstanding, and the service is excellent. This time we ordered the Cesar salad which is huge enough for 2. Not overly covered in dressing and lettuce was crisp, but very good. We had Pollo alla Picatta and the Bronx Pollo Parmigiana both were fantastic!
If you want to impress someone, this is the place!
Original visit-
Wow! We ordered the Pollo Al Marsala which was wonderful. The chicken was pan fried with the delicious gravey. We shared the plate because it was enough for 2 people. The bread that is given prior to the meal was fresh and delicious. We ended with chocolate cake, again great. The service was outstanding. The Owner was on the floor thanking each table and checking on the meals. It was truely a good feeling. A diffenate return. $$$
I just had lunch with a girlfriend of mine and WOW, I couldn't write this review fast enough. The service was outstanding. The waiter told what i assume was the owner that we wanted asparagus fries that we had seen on the menu online that weren't on the menu today. We were more than willing to try something else but someone back there made it happen. They were so delicious.
Pollo Bronx was the best chicken parm I've ever had in my life. They put on a little show with the cheese drizzle atop the chicken. We enjoyed the conversation and the ambiance (very nicely decorated for valentine's) so much that we forgot about the complimentary bread and oil til the end.
The waitstaff seemed to be trained for fine/semi-fine dining. The owner came around a few times to check on us as did the server.
We are already planning birthdays and anniversaries so we can come back.
I can't wait to have my leftovers.
Not to par with Olive Garden. While the bland fettuccini would be right at home at OG, they'd at least offer some Parmesan on top. Mare did not for either entree. OG also wouldn't take our bread away as we were eating it. While the most boring asparagus you can imagine is technically a side a bowl full of sliced sauteed mushrooms is not. Save your money
On a Sunday at 12:45 pm, there was no wait for a table of four, and the noise level was moderate, just bordering on loud. Service was excellent, and the owner came by a few times. Generous portions of food and hot fresh bread with a tasty oil accompaniment. I'm a bread gal, so that was my favorite--no apparent limit. 😀 We had the calamari with a slightly spicy marinara sauce and the house aioli for dipping. We shared two side salads. I added some of the ailoi to mine for a richer taste. We ordered the sole on risotto, orechiette with sausage and vegetables, chicken Parmigiano, and the pork chop. Everything was tasty. The chicken Parmigiano came with a thin sauce, but the server delivers it with a hot skillet of cheesy Alfredo sauce they pour on top until you say stop. Yummy. The pork chop came with zucchini and carrots cooked just right; the chop was breaded and topped with pecans and a fig jam--it was very tasty but the chop overdone and tough, so disappointing when everything else was so good. We had the cannoli, blueberry cheesecake, and biscotti cheesecakes. These were all enjoyable. My companions had Chianti and Moscato, which they liked. Despite the chops, we'll definitely return another day.
Food was amazing !! Top tier consideration of trying things out along with providing amazing service. Female staff were very friendly, attentive, and quick to put out bread for a group of us to pick at. They were very generous with the bread. They made sure we were fine and that the food was good. There were also always on standby and looking over to see how we were doing!! The chef or manager was very friendly, communicative and welcoming. He spoke to us personally.
First time here and it was so yummy! Allisonn was our waitress and she was phenomenal! Super friendly and brought us as much bread as we liked. Will be back!!
From the moment we walked into Mare e Monte, we felt welcomed. We were greeted by the owner himself with “welcome home,” which perfectly describes the entire experience. Every employee acknowledged us, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated for Valentine’s Day.
Our server, Ben, was kind, attentive, and genuinely personable not transactional at all. The owner even stopped by our table to just talk to us about the story and even shared that their 600-sq-ft kitchen means everything is made fresh daily, and you can truly taste the difference. The bread and olive oil were incredible, best we’ve ever had and every plate was a 10/10.
Dessert was made in-house Biscoff cheesecake and blueberry cheesecake with blueberries from Maine both amazing. Knowing the owner is from Albania just added to the authenticity and heart behind the food.
This isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience. We’ll definitely be back. ❤️🍝
To start this review I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for hospitality that I received from Javier. From start to finish he ensured an amazing experience. I was greeted at the door, sat and brought water and warm bread, ordered and had some great suggestions. The truffle fries suggested by my server Javier were more than satisfactory!!! The ambience this place has leaves you filling warm and fuzzy.🥰 two very enthusiastic thumbs up 👍
Ben was flawless in his approach- detail to table visits, menu suggestions, clearing, water refills, etc. Calamari breaded and fried to perfection with delicious sauces. Ideal restaurant noise level for table conversations. Will make this my go to lunch spot.
Finally got to go for their dinner. There is always a long wait last time was 2 hours but it was the holidays.
Today was right at 45 minutes. Like Kevin always says if there isn't a wait on Saturday night probably not going to make it in the restaurant business.
Food was delicious definitely worth the wait.
We shared the Insalata Primavera and Pollo Bronx Parmigiana plus bread with dipping oil. Plus a couple of glasses of red wine 🍷
It's the best parmigiana I've ever had. It is a golden-crusted chicken breast topped with vodka sauce, melted mozzarella, and a touch of sweet heat from cherry peppers, served over rigatoni Alfredo and Broccolini.
They pour hot mozzarella on it right at your table. OMG!!
Highly recommend if you're in the area.
Staff was wonderful and very attentive with everything. Our bartender was on point too. Always checking in on us. We sat at the bar to wait but did eat the salad including bread. Then got a table for our main entree.
Water and bread continued to be taken care of.
Even the owner checked in on us twice once at the bar then seated at table. And thanked us again on way out of restaurant.
Food portions were a lot. We shared and still have left overs. I'm pretty full.
Best Italian I've had in a very long time.
I'm not sure if he's going to expand there or not. But I feel like they may outgrow that space.
But overall one of the top restaurants in my book.
Definitely will be back. Each time will have to try a new entree but that parmigiana rocked. 😊
We heard about Mare e Monte on Tik-Tok and we were drawn in because the food looked so good. We were not disappointed! We ordered the Calamari Frittata, it was a large serving, the breading was on point, light and crispy. For our main dish, we ordered Pollo e Monte. The chicken breast was grilled and tender, it was also very juicy. The service was excellent! We will be back!
They don't take reservations but they do have an online wait list. While waiting outside, the owner came out and spoke to each and every waiting customer, apologized for the wait and offered water. The most impressive part of all this is that he brought the water out himself. Once seated, our server came over almost immediately to take our orders. The complimentary bread was delicious! Hot and fresh. All the food orders came out in a timely manner and were absolutely delicious! The calamari was crisp and not chewy. Seasoned very well and the marinara was great. I had the gnocchi bolognese. The gnocchi was pillowy and cooked perfectly and the bolognese was so flavorful. It was definitely worth the wait to get in and I left fully understanding why so many people were there.
Great options for food, and great wine selection. The restaurant is small, but very cozy. The staff is incredible and the food is delicious. Large portions as well. Their bread is also a very, very, very good.
Hi, I’m Ian. I’m a private Fine Dining Gastronomy Chef (ChefPapiGuero on IG), this is my second visit. My expectations are always high within reason. I’m always paying attention to technique, balance, and how flavors are built—and this kitchen gets it. The Italian food here is executed with intention, but it’s the sauces that really stand out. They’re layered, well-seasoned, hint of spice, and developed properly, not rushed or overly acidic. Even dipping bread in it was a delight.
Every dish shows respect for fundamentals while still delivering depth and character. It’s clear this is a kitchen made up of real experienced chefs understands flavor, restraint, and consistency—things that separate good Italian food from great Italian food.
Outside of the kitchen, you are greeted and treated in the family oriented atmosphere. The owner Prince knows what it takes to bring warmth to your visit and keep you coming back. I’ll be back again.
Gluten free bread was basically a GF tortilla. Oily and disappointing. Not worth the $8 -- though the server made it sound like it was complimentary, as we spoke of it in relation to the actual complimentary bread.
Place was nicely decorated for the season though.
Staff was very nice, I called my order in and picked it up. However, the restaurant is very small and there was barely enough space for the waiters to walk around. Based on the food I received, I will never eat here again. Shortly after I finished my meal, my stomach was very upset, and I did not feel well for the rest of the night. I got the Bronx Chicken Parm and I only ate the pasta because the chicken was not good whatsoever. I understand it’s another take on Chicken Parm but it was disgusting to say the least. They basically cut up pickled jalapeños/peppers and added it to the mixture of whatever they breaded it with. I wanted to like this place and I thought it was going to be great based on the reviews, but it was a disappointment. I’m making this review so no one else goes through what I went through, food poisoning is real and this place will give it to you.
OMG
This place it’s soooooo cutesy and amazing.
The people are VERY WELCOMING and they look like they mean it!
Everyone it’s smiling and enjoying themselves.
We waited 30 minutes, which is nothing in San Antonio, plus it was WORTH THE WAIT - trust me!!! When we come inside the owner greeted us as a family member that you haven’t seen in years. We sit and no wait passed before the waitress came to get our drinks and food order.
The bread 🍞 - AMAZING 🤩
The Bronx Pollo 🍗 Parmigiana - WOW 🤯
they poor a gallon creamy tasty cheese 🫕 🧀 soooooooo good.
The homemade tiramisu???? - amazingly delicious and creamy 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
This is one of those hidden gems 💎 in San Antonio.
The place is cozy and small but very clean.
I didn’t take too many pictures because I was so into the place.
But we will definitely be back!
Thank you Mr. Prince and your wonderful family / staff.
The food was incredible all the way from the bread, to the ceasar dressing to the chicken parm! Absolutely delicious! Then the service is incredible. It starts with the owner, and his inviting spirit trickles down through all the servers. I loved the experience and I will MOST DEFINITELY be going back again. I can’t believe it’s been down the street this whole time I’ve never visited.
The restaurant was full of life! My wife and I were seated quickly, and are orders were taken promptly. We ordered the calamari all arrabiata for our appetizer, and it was lightly breaded and fried to perfection, with a perfectly spicy sauce. I ordered the fettuccine di parma for my main dish. The presentation with the cheese pour over was a fun experience, and the chicken was juicy and tender! Overall, excellent food, the service was attentive, and the owner was so warm and welcoming! I would absolutely recommend Mare E Monte to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal and experience!
The signature dish here is the chicken Parm. It is the best. It is light breading but enough to make it flavorful. They do have a full bar to enjoy a cocktail with dinner. I don't drink alcoholic beverages but I'm sure they are as good as the entire experience was very memorable. The prices are pretty average I would say it's the perfect spot for dinner and birthday celebrations. Our waitress was very attentive and pleased to accommodate our party for all our wants and needs. I would give it 10 stars if I could.
They don’t just make meals, they make memories!
From the moment you walk in, you are made to feel at home. We were greeted very warmly by every single person in that building, especially by Javier, our waiter, Joe our liaison and the manager Prince. We had a beautiful table with wonderful bread and olive oil with seasonings.
I had some lovely light Italian beer, and my son joining me had a soda. He was already relaxed and having a wonderful time. And then the food came!
We barely began eating, and I could see how happy he was, and he tells me, “ This is our new number one spot, Dad!”. I had the chicken Parmesan with vodka sauce, and let me tell you it was perfect and topped with a generous portion of fresh mozzarella cheese. My son had spaghetti and marinara sauce and said it was the best he’s ever had.
The chef came out because I had to compliment the sample I had of their chicken piccata sauce. It said delightful sauce and they take special care to keep the flavors of the caper separate from the butter sauce until you bite into the capers. We will definitely be going back! I really loved this place.
Amazing!! Highly recommend!!
Reached out the day prior about coming with a large party, though they do not take reservations, they said would take care of us. Boy, did they!!
First, they rearranged tables to accommodate our party of 12, made sure we were happy with the set up and sat us as quickly as possible despite already being very busy (including two other large parties.)
Drinks were brought immediately and never went empty. Bread was amazing and refilled often. Our party ordered a variety of menu items and everyone loved every bite. All dishes were hot, tasty and beautifully presented.
Personally, I had the gnocchi which was best gnocchi I've ever had!!
Will definitely return with family and friends!!
Side note- the owner Prince was absolutely the best part of the night! Stopped at the table multiple times to make sure everyone was enjoying their meal, was at the door to bid us farewell and remind us that we were now family and to return soon.
I don’t understand how this place has so many excellent reviews. It was fine. My fettuccine was fine but completely without flavor. My mom had the seafood risotto which was undercooked crunchy rice in a dead seafood sauce. It was technically edible. The highlights of the meal were the asparagus appetizer, the bread, and the blueberry cheesecake.
The service was odd. Our waitress hovered over us waiting for us to finish the appetizer, even verbally hurrying us along, so that she could change our silverware to clean silverware. The owner coming around multiple times to proclaim that we were family was odd. He and the waitress completely disappeared once we took our first bite of the mediocre food. Obviously, we still tipped. We just aren’t coming back.
There are some sound deadening panels at the very top of the room, which was appreciated. We did notice an unusual number of American flags for an Italian restaurant.
The food, the ambiance, and service are all a 10!! The owner stop by several times to check on us. We never asked for more bread or drinks they just kept coming. We celebrated our daughter’s 20th bday. We will recommend to everyone. Thank u for a wonderful evening!
We heard about this restaurant on TicToc so wanted to try it. They do not do reservations but you can get on a waitlist via their website or through the Yelp app. We got on the list upon arrival. The wait time was just over an hour on a Friday night but worth it! You must wait outside standing on the sidewalk or in your car. There are no seats for waiting inside nor is there room. I had the Crispy Chicken Picatta. I have never had it crispy but it had so much flavor. I would order this again. Like everytime I order chicken picatta someplace, I never get enough pasta😏 My tablemate ordered the Ravioli Mare e Monte. She seemed to like it as there were no leftovers. Next time she wants to order the dish she saw in the TicToc video. Sorry I don't know the name of it. We had a side caesar salad that was really fresh and tasty and enough for two people. We had wine with our meals. They bring fresh bread to the table with some olive oil mix for dipping. That bread was delicious! I ate too much of it. We skipped dessert. The atmosphere was nice and has a bar (about 6-7 seats). The one TV at the bar has a food/travel channel on that was nice. The owner greeted everyone waiting outside for a table and continued to greet all the tables inside as well. He could maybe use a bigger space but really it works well just like it is. The service is good and the price is not too much. The food is exceptional.
We came here on a whim and were not disappointed. Ordered the spicy calamari, Caesar salad and the sole risotto. The sole really stood out, and I would highly recommend it. The bread served to the table was also very good. Their wine list is decent, but is aimed at bottle purchases (vs. buying a glass). The service was very good, best we’ve had in San Antonio.
Very impressed with this restaurant. People are so friendly, as is the owner. Food is absolutely delicious, made with quality ingredients. Our waitress Michaela was wonderful. Definitely will be returning. We had the artichoke appetizer, so good and tender. My husband had the bronx pollo which is chicken parm, very good. I had the fettuccine with chicken, also excellent. The bread and oil dip were also very good, had to ask for seconds! And to end the night, we had the tiramisu. Very airy and light . Highly recommend
I am confused by the positive reviews compared to my experience. I feel mislead by these reviews. Let’s begin with customer experience, it’s frustrating for a multitude of reasons. First, the person who answers phone cannot answer questions about the menu. Because of that you are placed on hold for a server, whom was even more unhelpful. We asked about how to order a dish because it was confusing online. The confusion arises from the fact that you are shown a picture of the Bronx Pollo Parmigiana that has chicken topped with cheese and/or Alfredo sauce and noodles. However, it’s not clear whether you have to select all of the things it is suppose to come with one by one, or select things you want extra of. It is unclear what the dish comes with it automatically and what you must select. There is no selection for noodles, so at the very least it appears it comes with noodles automatically. We call to get these questions answered and clear up the confusion. The server told us, “I can’t really help you I’d advise you to delete the app.” I think that takes the award for most unhelpful advice anyone has ever given me. I regret calling to clear up the confusion. Mind you, we asked what we were supposed to select and how the dish was served. We did not ask hard questions (or so we thought). That advice warranted an automatic hang up because you can’t fix stupid nor do I have the expertise to try.
Next, our food arrives and I’m confused yet again. We receive two containers with very different things although we ordered the same entree and one piece of bread. One container resembles the photo advertised, breaded chicken cheese on top and noodles. Another container has three pieces of chicken, little red sauce on top no cheese, no noodles, no Alfredo. To be fair one order did select chicken, cheese and Alfredo sauce just to be safe incase it did not come with it, even though the picture includes all of those things. The other didn’t select anything and we just wanted the meal as is thinking it would resemble the photo. We thought possibly that the selections just meant adding extra of whatever we selected. But no matter how you read our order it doesn’t make sense with what we received. The noodles were not an option to select so both containers we assumed should have them. They didn’t. The entree that added extra chicken didn’t have the extra chicken with Alfredo sauce and cheese.
Because we thought there was a possibility we just ordered it incorrectly we decided to call again to make sure. We call and the person who answers can’t help with menu questions oddly again. She tries to find a server. We can hear her ask someone if they know the menu. The server explicitly states no I don’t know the menu either. We are assuming a server because she said she would find a server to answer our menu questions. They put us on hold realizing we can hear them speaking to each other. Then the phone cuts in and out, eventually just hanging up. Obviously, this is incredibly frustrating as we are confused, not understanding where our order went wrong, and now have to fix our entrees because what we received is subpar.
At the very least the food is okay and not worth almost 70$. Id advise others to just go to North Italia. Additionally, even if the food was amazing (which let me be clear it’s not) the customer service still wouldn’t make it worth 70$. The service earns the prestige award of “most unhelpful customer service” of 2025. If you guys are interested in receiving your trophy give me a call.
My husband and I have a weekly date night and because he works out of town M-F we try to make our date as special as possible. Tonight was my choice. I googled restaurants in our area and after scanning entirely too many restaurant menus I came across Mare E Monte Italian Restaurant. I immediately stopped my search. Every picture of their menu options looked absolutely delicious. I read the reviews and made my choice. We arrived shortly after 7pm and had a 12 - 15 minute wait…not a big deal at all. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the hostesses and many of the waitstaff. Not in an irritating way, but a in a genuinely friendly and welcoming way. The Manager greeted us and said “welcome home.” It was all so nice! We were waited on immediately. Our waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We ordered the meatballs for an appetizer. It was delicious! The Mariana is incredible, meatballs were fresh, tender and so tasty. Served on a bed of sautéed onions and peppers and topped with goat cheese it’s pure perfection. My husband ordered the lamb chops which were served with mashed potatoes and spinach. They were seasoned to perfection and so, so juicy and tender. The portions are very generous. I ordered the sole topped with breadcrumbs on a bed of creamy asparagus risotto and spinach. The combination melted in my mouth. The subtle sweetness of the sole matched with the savory seasoning and the creaminess of the risotto and spinach was sheer perfection. This is the best seafood dish I’ve had in decades. I’m a total fan and will definitely return often. I can’t wait to bring my daughters and schedule my next girls night with my friends. This is a family owned and operated business and it shows. They truly make you feel welcomed and provide service that is second to none.
We stumbled upon this gem because they offer gluten-free bread and gluten-free pasta and they have several gluten sensitive items. The experience from start to finish was amazing and made us feel at home. Joe, our server, was the cherry on top. He walked us through the wine list and found my husband the perfect wine for before and during dinner. He even made sure I was well aware of my choices concerning the GF/GS options. I won’t even try to name the dishes we had because the names are in Italian. The lemonade was tasty and fresh. The entire staff was attentive and friendly. The owner definitely set the tone. This may become our regular spot. Oh also we we’re pleasantly surprised to see that they put acoustic paneling up.
My only critique is the duck fat potatoes needed to have a crisp to them.
I honestly walked in here expecting it to be overhyped and served with mediocre food. HOWEVER it was definitely the opposite. We were greeted by the owner which was so cool and our server LASAGNA LADY really look care of us. They gave us bread, brought out water without asking and really made us feel comfortable... Food was absolutely delicious and every single staff member was seen smiling as long as with all the other customers there... SUSPICIOUSLY a good experience... Did I trip and hit my head and I'm in a fairytale right now? What are the odds you find a good restaurant that cares about an experience anymore with a customer connection. NONE. This place really blew my mind and my taste buds. God bless you Prince you are very charismatic and God bless you as well Pasta Lady. Unfortunately we aren't from here so the chances for coming back to San Antonio are low but if we do, this place is definitely a must stop for us as we enjoyed the whole experience and we love pasta. This is definitely up there for the best pasta I ever had. Thank you.
In my 55 years and visiting many restaurants this is the friendliest owner and staff I have encountered. Joe was amazing. One of the best waiters I have had. The Caesar dressing is amazing. The bread is so good. And the lasagna was amazing. We will definitely be going back many times in the future.
We loved come eat lunch our server Javier was outstanding bring every thing quick, he es very friendly.. my order is chicken al monte..delicious and my husband take veal morea was scrumptious..the menu has healthy very good flavor vegetables with fresh bread
Wow! It starts with the attention to detail from the staff. “Welcome Home!” Never did I need to ask my waitress for water / bread / anything. The staff is trained to over deliver on service and they do!! The food is traditional and could be some of the best Italian food in San Antonio. Lunch was packed and the food was incredible!! Rush to try this place where everyone makes you feel like you are dining at home with them.
Went tonight, 2nd time, we love this place. Staff is great, food is amazing and with 2 young kids we always feel welcome.
Tonight I had the crispy chicken piccata which was 12/10 a the artichokes were a chefs kiss. Hubby had lasagna with meatball, it was good- although I think he prefers the lobster ravioli from the first time we visited. Kids catered to with spaghetti options. Bread was warm. We had Alize serve us tonight and she was wonderful. Manager walking around saying “welcome home” is always warm. One of our highly recommended spots for sure! Favorite Italian hands down.
We chose this place because it had a 4.9 rating but didn't read the part that the wait is long on the weekends. We were initially told that the wait would be able 30-40 minutes. By the time we were seated, it was a little over an hour. The owner came outside while we were waiting and introduced himself. He handed one of the guest a can of bread for waiting, similar to what's on the picture. She then passed it around to us. The bread was delicious.
We were seated. The place is small so it's very cozy. The table to the left and right were fairly close to us. It was still nicely presented though.
Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Provided good suggestions. I had the lamb chops, medium rare. The flavor was good but it was mostly fat on the bones though. It was good nonetheless. I had a side of pasta. Our waiter suggested on pairing it with the spicy marinara and I chose spaghetti noodles. It was delicious.
I would definitely come back.
The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. It’s a bit more expensive than a typical Italian restaurant, but the higher quality is clear. The staff were helpful, attentive, and gave great recommendations. It’s also kid friendly. Our kids enjoyed their meals. They also serve free bread and oil while you wait. We had a great experience and will definitely come back.
This is the best Italian food I have ever had. Seriously. Not only that, but the service made me feel like I was part of the family. The wine selection is incredible, the homemade bread and cheesecake were absolutely phenomenal and they even sang me happy birthday! This place is an absolute GEM. I would eat here three meals a day if I could.
The wait time was worth it, waiting about 30-40 minutes. The bread and oil was tasty, food was absolutely amazing, but what made it worth it was the atmosphere and our server Ruben and Joe. Both helpful and attentive. I'm sure the other servers are amazing as well. Well definitely come back because there's many other foods to try. I also heard they change the menus every couple of months so it's always different.
First time here. Great little date night spot. Amazing Caesar salad, must try the breaded chicken! Will definitely be adding this to date night spots.
When my usual lunch spot was closed, I tried Mare e Monte next door — and I’m glad I did. The lasagna Bolognese was rich, hearty, and clearly scratch-made, the kind of dish you can tell took real time and care. The bread with olive oil was a nice start (though the butter I requested showed up after the lasagna — a small service slip considering there were several staff and a manager on the floor).
I added a side meatball — excellent flavor, veal, homemade — but for the price, it felt a little out of balance. To their credit, the manager asked for feedback, comped it, and I suggested either making it bigger, making it two, or folding it into the lasagna at a slightly higher plate price.
Overall: food was delicious, service was attentive, and I’ll definitely return for more of that lasagna. As for the solo side meatball? Let’s just say… it needs a wingman.
Wonderful staff. Bad, over priced Italian food. Our best dish was the appetizer (Carciofi al Tartufo). The salad dressing on the insalata primavera is just oil. The lasagna is just cheese/sauce/pasta. The waiter encouraged my wife to add meat balls to it only to have the single meat ball to be raw in the middle. The chicken piccata tasted like store bought breaded chicken bathed in oil. No one was ecstatic about their meal. We won’t be coming back.
Mare E Monte is an absolute gem in San Antonio! From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality of the owner made us feel like family, setting the tone for what turned out to be one of the most fabulous dining experiences I’ve ever had.
The evening started with freshly baked bread and olive oil that was so good, it could be a course all on its own. The portion sizes here are incredibly generous, yet every bite feels thoughtfully prepared and elevated. I ordered the Gnocchi Bolognese, and I’m convinced I’ll be dreaming about it for the rest of my life—pillowy soft gnocchi paired with the most flavorful, comforting sauce I’ve ever tasted.
The wine selection is out of this world, perfectly curated to complement the menu and elevate the meal even further. And just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite, dessert arrived—Biscoff cheesecake and classic cannolis. Both were divine, the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable evening.
The service and atmosphere are on another level, blending elegance with the kind of genuine hospitality that makes you never want to leave. This was my first time at Mare E Monte, but it will absolutely not be my last. A true five-star experience in every way! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A Masterclass in Hospitality and Cuisine — San Antonio’s Italian Gem
In the ever-expanding dining scene of San Antonio, few establishments manage to strike the perfect balance between exquisite cuisine and unforgettable service. Yet, this Italian restaurant helmed by the incomparable Prince has achieved precisely that, setting a new standard for what dining out should feel like. If there were a way to award six stars, this would be the only venue worthy of such a distinction.
From the moment you cross the threshold, you are welcomed not as a patron, but as an old friend invited into a warm, personal space. Prince himself exudes a genuine charm and hospitality that permeates the entire staff. Every server radiates warmth and attentiveness, creating an atmosphere that feels at once refined and deeply personal. Speaking with Prince is a privilege in itself; his life story is as rich and moving as the dishes he serves.
In an era when too many restaurants have reduced dining to mere transaction, this establishment reminds you that a meal is an experience. Prince’s philosophy is simple yet profound: “Anything you want, exactly as you want it no questions asked.” This ethos transforms a night out into an indulgent, almost regal experience, where guests are treated with the kind of care and attention that makes them feel like royalty.
And then, there is the food a celebration of Italian culinary tradition executed with precision and passion. Every plate is not only a feast for the palate but a work of art for the eyes. From the warm, pillowy bread paired with olive oil so divine it could be mistaken for ambrosia, to the handmade pastas that melt effortlessly on the tongue, each bite reaffirms the kitchen’s dedication to craft. Even dessert a cheesecake so tempting that restraint proved impossible before the first photo is prepared and presented with impeccable attention to detail.
It is the combination of culinary excellence and heartfelt hospitality that makes this restaurant exceptional. The final touch? As we departed, Prince himself emerged to bid farewell with an embrace more akin to family than formality. Sitting in the car afterward, my wife and I exchanged stunned glances, both silently thinking the same thing: This is how dining out should be.
Prince, if you are reading this, consider writing the definitive book on hospitality you have mastered it in a way that is as rare as it is inspiring. Until next week, my friend, when we will once again return “home.”
I went with chicken piccata. To my disappointment the chicken was breaded and fried a bit burnt and low on taste. Normally, this dish is grilled not breaded. Even the lemon capers were burnt and not edible.
My girlfriend and I had an amazing dinner at Mare E Monte. We had the calamari fritti as an appetizer and the breading along with the aioli was absolute perfection. The owner and staff were also incredibly kind and attentive. They greeted us as if we were old friends. We had the Ravioli and Fettuccini dishes as our main and both were impressive. We finished our meal with the tiramisu and we're incredibly pleased.
Everything was simply delicious! The bread & EVOO dip was to die for, the herbs were beautifully dressed and seasoned, such velvety crab cakes and decadent sauces, scallops melting in my mouth. My partner loved his spicy rigatoni (+chicken). The sauce was great, not too spicy, but whoever grilled that chicken?! Most succulent piece of chicken we’ve had in a long while - my goodness. And the shrimp? So fresh! Hats off to the chef. The pasta was perfectly al dente (so a bit too much for me but - when in Italy!) Our server, Andres was a delight as well, helpful & attentive. We will certainly be back!
We flew in from NJ/NY for my son’s Air Force graduation and decided to try this restaurant. This is hands down one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. I have a gluten allergy and they did everything they could to make anything I wanted gluten free. They even made me gluten free bread. We had the sole fish it was out of this world! The service was top notch! I highly recommend eating here!
I had lunch with a friend for the first time. Definitely will return. Food and service were excellent. We loved the ambiance of the restaurant. We split the Adriatic shrimp, insalata caresses, Orecchiette pasta and cannoli: amazing! The accompanying bread was also superb. Though we didn’t have wine, the list was very interesting with bold choices and reasonable prices. I inspected the new wine for the upcoming wine list and it was also amazing. Best Italian food that I have had in San Antonio. Reservations are not accepted at this time. Parking in front and back is ample. The owner visited our table and it was obvious that he was interested in us having a great experience at his restaurant. Highly recommended.
Sooo delicious!! Our group came here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch after a rough morning. Mare e Monte did not disappoint! I had no expectation for gluten free options but yes there are some options. The service was excellent and the staff very accommodating. Everyone really enjoyed their food. All our dishes were savory yet fresh and bright. A very lovely dining experience that made our day.

Not pictured were the amazing salads we had, ate them too fast!
We stopped in while on vacation from Oklahoma. Hands down the BEST food. Services was amazing as well. We had a party of 6 and didn’t have to wait at all for a table. We were met by the owner who treated us like we were family. We had the Ravioli Mare E Monte, Veal, Alfredo (one chicken and one shrimp), Gnocchi, and calamari (both options). The bread was fresh and so delicious. There was not one bit of food left on any of our plates. I wish they had a location in Oklahoma because I’d eat there all the time. This is a must for any future trips.
I love going to Mare e Monte. The atmosphere feels warm and inviting, and the staff are always friendly and attentive, which really adds to the experience.
The food is consistently delicious. The Calamari all’Arrabbiata is one of my favorite things to order, crispy and flavorful without being greasy. The pasta dishes are also excellent. I recently had the fettuccine with chicken, peas, and mushrooms, and it was rich and tasty but not too heavy.
I also have to mention the complimentary bread and olive oil. The bread comes out warm and fresh, and the olive oil is high quality with a nice flavor. It’s such a good start to the meal.
Another thing I appreciate is the personal story behind the restaurant. The “1999” sign on the wall refers to the year the United States helped bring peace to the owner’s home country, Kosovo. He’s incredibly kind and grateful, and you can feel that warmth in how the restaurant is run.
Overall, Mare e Monte is a wonderful spot for a meal with great food and genuinely good people running it.
I enjoyed everything about my visit to Mare E Monte. The service is excellent, with multiple people coming by to check on our table. The food was delicious. I had a salad and an appetizer as my enter. The appetizer was just enough with the salad and bread.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mare E Monte: San Antonio's Italian Crown Jewel Where You're Treated Like Family
Stop searching for authentic Italian perfection in San Antonio. You've found it at Mare E Monte Italian Restaurant. More than just a meal, dining here is a heartfelt experience defined by outstanding quality food, truly amazing service, and the unmistakable feeling that owner Prince
welcomes you as part of his own family.
The Food: Simply delicious
Mare E Monte lives up to its name ("Sea and Mountain") by delivering the full breadth of Italy's flavors with impeccable quality. This isn't just great Italian; it's hands-down our favorite in San Antonio. Every dish sings with authenticity and top-tier ingredients.
The Verdict: An Unmissable San Antonio Gem
Mare E Monte delivers the pinnacle of Italian dining in San Antonio: the outstanding quality food, combined with flawless, personalized service, all wrapped in the unforgettable, familial warmth of owner. It’s a rare establishment where passion permeates every detail, from the kitchen to the dining room. You leave not just satisfied, but genuinely happy, already planning your next visit.
The ambiance and the service were excellent. We did love the bread, alfredo (creamy) and the lasagna. The black pasta needs a bit of salt for me. I know it’s supposed to be light But overall, the place is really great.
Really cute and quaint Italian restaurant. Their bread and olive oil was great. Staff were warm and welcoming. The owner came out and greeted everyone which was nice. Food was decent
We went for a friend's birthday dinner. I called the day before to advise them that we'll be a group of 8 since they don't do reservations. Once we got there, we were immediately seated. Three members of our party couldn't make it because of an emergency and they didn't give us a hard time like other restaurants usually do. Adam, our waiter, was amazing! He immediately brought us drinks, bread, and oil with Italian seasoning. He gave us great suggestions and phenomenal service the entire time. Everyone was super friendly from the minute you walk in. The chef came to our table to make sure everything was great and exceeded our standards. Thank you so much to everyone at Mare E Monte for making this a special day for our friend!
My wife and fell into gem of restaurant. The service provided Aram was great/ great sense of humor. The food was better! Best Italian spot in town!( good bread) my wife’s favorite! Naw I’m lying it was my favorite I’m fat! Trying to be classy like the establishment. Extra parking in the back
Where to even begin on this review is difficult because there was literally nothing to write that wasn’t perfect. Best restaurant experience. I’ve had anywhere all year.
The food was literally some of the best Italian that I have eaten anywhere. The service staff went over and above. Don’t let the pricing or the exterior fool you the service was fine dining level. With every bit of attention paid to the smallest detail. Joe is the best.
The owner came by and said that he wanted it to feel like family and it was like going to a family members house for a holiday.
I had a large party of 10 and they accommodated our seating with lots of kids. They brought out bread and water for the kids before even a second thought and told us that they were going to bring kids meals first out without prompting.
Lasagna sold out. Bread served in old rusty tin cans w/ tissue. Waiter tried to have us order the expensive menu item. Soda cans are $4.00 each! Nonsense! Not impressed.
A friend recommended so I took my mom for lunch. Best crispy chicken piccata, and Sole Oreganata I have EVER EATEN! The food was amazing. The service was excellent, bread was fresh and espresso was perfect. Even the tea and water were great. I’m bringing everyone back to try more dishes!!! Wonderful food!!
This place is a great find! They recently made adjustments to their menu and had run out of the very reason we went there, gluten free pasta! The owner felt so bad he sent someone to purchase some while we enjoyed our wine. I am so glad we waited because the chicken piccata was the best I have ever had! They even had some gluten free bread to dip which is a real treat. The food is very reasonably priced and the serving size is more than enough so we had leftovers. It was even better the next day!!
This place is a hidden gem. Extremely nice staff, very good menu with a lot of variety. Everything is amazing from the olive oil and bread to the blueberry cheesecake at the end. A very authentic European feel.
We had an amazing dinner at Mare e Monte and loved every bite! The Ocean City Crab Cakes were the perfect start—crispy on the outside, packed with lump crabmeat, and paired with a tangy remoulade that gave them just the right kick.
The Seafood Risotto was creamy and flavorful, loaded with shrimp, scallops, and pieces of delicate sole. You could really taste the care that went into it, and the cherry tomatoes and Parmigiano on top pulled it all together beautifully.
The Vitello Bronx Parmigiana was next-level comfort food—tender veal with a crispy breading, smothered in a rich vodka sauce and gooey mozzarella. The spicy cherry peppers added a great little heat, and the fettuccine Alfredo it was served on was rich and delicious.
We finished the night with the blueberry cheesecake, and wow—so good! Creamy, not too sweet, and the blueberry topping was super fresh. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal.
The service was friendly and attentive, and the whole atmosphere just felt warm and welcoming. Mare e Monte is definitely going on our list of go-to spots in San Antonio. Highly recommend!
When my husband and I entered the front door we felt like we entered the home of a good friend. We were greeted by the owner who assured us we were, in fact, home. We were wined and dined in the most delightful family atmosphere. The food was excellent, authentic and just perfect! Even gluten free bread for me which was the tastiest! Our waiter, Guillermo, was attentive to every need and was THE best ever! Felt we were transported to Italy in the couple of hours we dined. This was the MOST delightful experience and most delicious meal we have had in a while. Felt we made many new friendships and will be returning soon. Thanks for a fun filled delicious evening!
Such a beautiful and flavorful place with amazing staff. Thank you Joe for taking care of my family today and giving us an amazing experience. The fettuccine is to die for and the oil with the bread is perfect.
Amazing! Kids and parents loved it- from the bread, to the salad, to the entree, wine and dessert. This place truly knows hospitality. Owner has total dedication to making sure everyone has an amazing experience. We will be back !!!
Got take out tonight. Ordered meatballs, fettuccine and lasagna. Meatballs are tiny and over priced. Too much red pepper flavor. The sauce is more peppers and onions than red sauce. Lasagna was mushy…not sure if there were no noodles or they were way overcooked and there was way too much cheese. I love cheese but this was like a brick of cheese. The Parmesan had a funky taste. The bread was stale. $65 for this?? Very disappointed.
This Isn’t Just a Restaurant—It’s a Love Story You Can Taste
There are meals, and then there are experiences that stay with you long after the plates are cleared. Tucked away like a secret you almost want to keep to yourself, Mare e Monte is one of those rare gems where the food speaks to your soul—and the person behind it all, Mr. Princ, feels more like family than a proprietor.
From the moment you walk in, there’s this warm, intangible magic in the air. It’s not just the scent of slow-simmered sauces or the perfect crust crackling on freshly baked bread—though, believe me, those will make your eyes roll back in bliss. It’s the feeling that someone truly cares about what they’re serving you. This isn’t just cooking; it’s storytelling. It’s heritage. It’s love on a plate.
Every dish is crafted with such intentionality, it’s as if the chef is standing beside you, sharing a piece of their heart. The flavors are layered, soulful, and deeply personal—like the meals your grandmother made, if your grandmother happened to be a culinary genius.
And then there’s Mr. Princ. If you’re lucky enough to chat with them, you’ll walk away inspired. Their passion for food, for people, for creating a space where strangers become friends—it’s contagious. You feel it in the food, in the atmosphere, in the laughter that bubbles around the room.
This place isn’t just a must-visit—it’s a must-feel.
I’m telling you now, put Mare e Monte on your bucket list! Drive hours if you have to. Fly across states. Cancel your other dinner plans. Whatever it takes—go. Because this isn’t just a meal. It’s a memory waiting to be made…
Food was yummy, huge servings. Recommend the caprese salad. Enjoyed the bread starter, but wish the olive oil came out with more herbs/pepper. Staff were delightful though we had to remind our server about anything we’d asked for (pepper, a new napkin, glass of wine.) Popular lunch spot for ladies 50+ when we were there. Overall felt overpriced for lunch (total for a salad, two mains, and two glasses of wine = $100) considering half the food came out cold and service was okay but not great.
We had our first family meal at this gem of Italian cuisine and will definitely be returning! The service was top tier, the owner came and introduced himself and along with the fantastic waiter made sure we were good with drink refills, fresh bread etc. The food was next level fresh! Took me back to little Italy and it’s phenomenal tasting goodness, you can literally taste the love they put into their food! Will definitely be returning!
I recently visited this restaurant with a group of friends and we were disappointed by the quality of the food. I ordered Lobster Ravioli and it was dry, too salty and not hot enough. The dish lacked flavor and the portion size was too small. Even the Garlic Mashed Potatoes I ordered lacked Garlic flavor and tasted chunky like it was made from boxed Mashed Potatoes. 2 of my friends ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs and the pan it came in was too small it looked like a dish from the Kid's Menu. The portions were too small considering the prices and it didn't have enough meatballs so, they both had to order extra meatballs to make the meal complete. The bread was too dry and hard to swallow. The menu is weird because, most of the dishes do not have pasta that comes with it although this is an Italian restaurant but, pasta can be ordered as a side dish. The waiter was attentive but was incorrectly reaching over us to refill our drinks and that was annoying. We came here to celebrate one of my friend's birthday and we brought our own cake. They charged us all extra for bringing our own cake (dessert) and serving the cake to us on small plates. I have never been to a restaurant that charges customers for bringing a birthday cake to celebrate someone's birthday. This restaurant needs to improve their food quality, portion sizes and menu. I will say I liked the cleanliness of the restaurant and restroom. All of my friends left disappointed by the food we had, it was not worth coming and we should have went somewhere else to enjoy some good Italian food.
Great food, from the appetizers all the way to the desserts. The calamari were the super tender and lightly breaded, perfect. The lobster ravioli savory and abundant, the sauce delicious. Very good service on top. If you don't want to wait, go at 9 pm or later.
This place is incredible.
I am a 3rd generation Italian and I have had it all.
Pulling up I was confused based on the reviews thinking there is no way this place is that good.
We walk in, Subtle dining not over the top fancy and very minimalistic tables with white cloth. Typical Italian dining. Our server was excellent never asked the name but it was a gentleman in his 20s tan skin combed dark hair and he took great care of us throughout.
The only “knock” I have is the bread served upon arrival is mediocre. Not bad by any means… we ate 3 baskets of it but not what you would think a place who’s food is this great would have.
Calamari Arrabbiata was great. Crab cakes were excellent. Meatballs were light on sauce but made up for it in flavor of the meat. Only a few places I’ve had that had better meatballs. Tony’s Napoletana in San Francisco comes to mind. The Gnocchi is a MUST. Absolutely unreal. Melts in your mouth texture is great and the flavor is to die for.
I can’t wait to go back. I am a stickler when it comes to Italian food and didn’t think I’d ever find anything in the San Antonio area that would be acceptable Italian food let alone one of the best Italian Restaurants I’ve ever eaten at in the states.
I will try the rest of the menu within the next couple of weeks.
If you want highly quality and amazingly delicious food, excellent service, and nice atmosphere then this is your place! I can’t rave enough about how delicious the food was. The owner came to the table and spoke with us. The chef wanted to see how my husband liked “the special” he ordered. I can go on and on. Bread….fresh! Calamari and scallops…cooked perfectly! Our dishes…amazing! The cheesecake…best I have had in a long time! G the waiter was fantastic! Seriously the best place we have eaten at for Italian food. This restaurant is officially our favorite and we will be back. Go…you won’t regret it.
We came to Mare e Monte at 11:15 on the Saturday after Valentine's Day. Their dining area is split between more intimate 2 person tables and larger tables for bigger parties near the bar. We were seated immediately.
They started us with some wood fired bread and oil that was perfectly cooked and warm. The owner came out to welcome us and let us know that we should treat it like we're family and ask for anything we want.
We started with the Caesar salad and calamari which were both great. They were out of lasagna, but we ended up getting the lobster ravioli and pasta al nero with scallops. Both were outstanding.
For dessert we tried the house made blueberry cheesecake and cannolis. Wow they were great.
Service was extremely attentive. Food was perfect. Atmosphere was good. Highly recommend.
More folks were arriving as we were leaving and parking was filling up. I think we picked a good time.
Date night at Mare e Monte was a delightful experience. The ambiance of the restaurant set a perfect mood for us. We enjoyed a lovely evening together, away from our usual routine.we started off with the bread and oil, it was yummy! The highlight of the meal was the salmon I ordered. It was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful. Each bite melted in my mouth, and the seasonings elevated the taste. My husband chose the lamb, and he was thrilled with his selection. The lamb was tender and rich, with a savory glaze that he couldn't stop raving about. We paired our meal with a side of fettuccine. It was fantastic. The service was attentive but not intrusive, allowing us to savor our food and conversation. We left feeling satisfied and looking forward to our next visit. Overall, it was a wonderful date night filled with good food and great company. Oh, and the wine! Can’t forget the wonderful selection of wine!
Very nice cozy atmosphere with great service. The side salad and bread was the best thing we had. The main course was very disappointing. The food was cold and did not taste fresh. I had to add salt to my dish. I took my mom out for an early Valentines dinner and left embarrassed. By the time they remade her plate we lost our appetite. Everything tasted like frozen food that was microwaved. Will not come back here again. They didn’t even offer to comp her plate for the inconvenience or didn’t offer a free dessert. I do not recommend this place for what they charge.
Hubby wanted a proper lunch this past Sunday instead of brunch food. He suggested we visit @ristorantemareemonte on Huebner. It was already busy but we were able to be seated quickly. If you don’t know, you can join the waitlist on Yelp.
Prince welcomed us warmly, shared recommendations and ensured we had a great experience. Even gave us complimentary tiramisu and blueberry cheesecake to take home. The complimentary bread was warm and came with a dipping sauce. We tried the Calamari allArrabbiata with the sauce on the side. They were perfectly crunchy and also had the aioli to dip in. We shared the Insalata Primavera, which was perfect for the 3 of us. During our previous date night, Prince recommended the Sole Oregenata, their customers’ all-time favorite dish. Dad and I shared that generous portion. Love the sauce! Hubby had the recommended Pork Chop San Remo and added the Fettucine Alfredo. Love the fig jam on the crust! He shared a bite but I had to ask for a second bite!
All the food were fantastic. Guillermo never missed a beat with his service. He kept our drinks filled and checked in on us frequently. If you haven’t been here yet, add it to your list to must try. Everything is wonderful from start to finish!
The restaurant will introduce new dishes in April. In addition, they will be having wine dinners to test new dishes. February’s wine dinner will feature Georgian wines.
The owner Prince greeted us on entering and said welcome home, we truly felt like we were eating a good home-cooked meal that we experienced in our five years in Italy. The bread was wonderful, the wait staff were very attentive and kind and the food was excellent!! Grazie Mille/faleminderit!!
The 5 star reviews are for real. Friendly and fast service, but did not feel rushed at all. The owner made us feel so welcome, and the food was excellent. In addition to the complimentary sourdough bread, we got the meatballs, asparagus, and bruschetta for appetizers, which were all delicious. I would only say meatballs could have been a little hotter, but still so tasty. Our waiter anticipated our every need, and waited until we were finished with our apps before serving our mains. My husband loved his spicy rigatoni, and my Pasta Al Nero was so flavorful, garlicky, and hot. Tiramisu was also one of the best we’ve had. We will definitely be coming back!
All food was tasy. We've tried pasta with shrimps, caprese with buratto(very delicious!) and chiken.
We also love the bread! And wanted to buy one more with us ,but they give it us for free! Thanks!
Our waiter was very polite and kind.
I just ate the best meatballs I’ve ever had. They come on a bed of caramelized onions, sweet peppers and sliced garlic cloves…. The sauce and the cheese on top were divine. I used their thinly sliced ciabatta bread to scoop up all of that good stuff, and it was *chef’s kiss.* I ordered the Ravioli Mare e Monte for my entree and it was amazing. These raviolis were STUFFED with lobster. They were not stingy at all. 10/10
A group of us went here for the first time for a post Christmas/New Year's get together. They don't take reservations but we were seated quickly which was great for a Friday night at 6pm. Service was very good but things were a little slow coming out of the kitchen. We ordered the calamari which was excellent, lightly breaded, crisp and tender. Also ordered the artichoke, also very good but that was the one that took quite a while to get to the table. However, the restaurant filled up quickly and was full, so sometimes you need to be patient. I had the seafood risotto, which was delicious, and others had chicken picatta, eggplant parmesan, chicken alfredo, and Caesar's Salad with Shrimp. Everyone enjoyed their selection. One of the highlights of the evening was the Owner. He circled the restaurant visiting with every table and ensuring that everything was okay and that no one needed anything. He was so very personable and upbeat. I'm Italian and very picky when it comes to Italian restaurants so it surprised me when I saw him because I could tell he was not Italian. We chatted with him outside when we were leaving and found that he is Albanian, as are the chefs. Well, close enough, I guess. I was duly impressed with the service, the ambiance, the food, and affordability. I look forward to returning.
We had the lasagna and the bronx pollo parmigiana. Their bread is so good! It’s a nice environment and the food is delicious. The price is a little high but the food is worth it.
The food was AMAZING! The chicken parm, chicken mare, and Alfredo was the best we’ve ever had. The house made bread was AMAZING! The tiramisu was spot on. The owner was so friendly and checked on us often. Service was amazing! Will definitely be back!
This was an interesting yet very satisfying experience. We entered through the rear of the restaurant, a bit different but it allowed us to see more of the space. Very nice and cozy. Some holiday decor but not much. It wasn’t loud or library silent . We were immediately seated by the owner, who greeted us with welcome home. He sat us in the front. It was nice. Several tables around with other couples/groups engaged in conversation. The staff was dressed neatly and looked like they enjoyed their jobs. Our waiter was very nice and pretty quick. We enjoyed some complementary bread and butter. Bread was deliciously fresh and had good flavor. We were given just enough to hold us through ordering, which was great because we were totally looking forward to our entree. We split a César salad and it was good. It took us a while to decide what to order, the menu had many attractive options. I selected the Ravioli Mare e Monte, because I LOVE ravioli. The sauce was so creamy and tasty. I would definitely order this again. My hunny ordered the highly recommended Bronx Pollo Parmigiana. Wasn’t really his thing. He said the flavors were hit or miss and it just didn’t look appealing. He doesn’t typically have a fried meat with his pasta. The owner noticed almost immediately this was not the dish for my love. So he offered to prepare something else. He selected the Lasagne al Forno. BEST DECISION! So good. The tomatoes in the meat sauce were so flavorful. There was a sweetness that said IM FRESH and was chopped by hand. Lol. I will definitely order that the next time! We don’t usually take home leftovers but that came home. It was so filling. It was even good when we reheated it. Our food came out a little fast but management noticed and quickly took action. We were able to sit and enjoy our food and the environment, no need to rush. We left the establishment feeling like it was money well spent. We will absolutely return.
We went for an early dinner. The food was perfect. My husband had Chicken Parmesan, his friend had the steak and I had Veal Piccata. The Caprese Salad was excellent and large enough for my
Husband and I to share. The bread was the best! We had to pass on dessert because we were so full. Our server ( I think his name was Andres) was extremely attentive. We will definitely be going back..
Everything from the bread and olive oil, Caesare salad, lasagne and tiramisu was excellent. If you want to enjoy the true taste of Italy then Mare e Monte should be your italian destination.
I had lasagna it was very good. Fried calamari was great! And the bread, so good. Great service.
It feels like home !
Chicken Marsala was excellent. Enjoyed the bread and oil. Nice service and atmosphere. Many wines too.
Grand opening is evening of 11/25
Attentive, courteous service that paired well with the wonderfully prepared entrees. Extra bonus with the warm, freshly made bread!
This restaurant is definitely on the top of our list of ‘neighborhood favorite’. We intend to share our ‘find’ with our friends.
Thank you!
I'm not sure what to rave about first, the food, the service, or the charming ambiance. 100% recommended dining experience. The food is fresh and strays from traditional mom and pop italian with elevated flavor profiles. The bread and oil served complimentary is soft and warm, the sauces have subtle kick, lamb chops were well prepared. The service was 5 star stand out from all of the wait staff well trained and with attention to small details greatly impressed. While the lamb chops were perfectly cooked they could have used a bit more flavor for my taste and the tiramasu needed to be soaked in more coffee which is the only reason I've rated the food as 4 stars. The Bronx Veal dish . . . Delicious. The restaurant is decorated for Christmas and is just perfect. I'll be back and will tell my friends.
Our family loved everything about this lovely restaurant. Each of the 3 dishes we enjoyed were all delicious‐ we had the lasagna, lobster ravioli with veal & Pollo ala picatta & we all highly recommend. It was extra special to celebrate a birthday with a tasty dessert of tiramisu. If you're gluten free, you MUST try their gluten free bread. It's amazing. The ambiance is perfect and the hospitality is like no other. 5 star & HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We will be back!
We visited on Wed., Oct 23, 2024. The owner, Prince, took time to personally visit our table and speak to us. He was very pleasant and genuinely grateful for our patronage. Zerina, our really pleasant and personable waitress, was well-versed on the menu and was able to offer useful suggestions to assist in our decision making. We ordered the Sole Oreganata with spinach and asparagus risotto. It was heavenly. The bread (and dipping oil) was warm, perfectly soft with a crunchy crust, and so delicious. We easily could have made a meal on the bread and oil alone. We had a side of eggplant parmigiana which didn’t disappoint. I personally could’ve used a little more salt in it, but that was also what made it different: it WASN’T over salted. They offer desserts, which we toyed with trying, but honestly, we were WAY too full to order dessert. I’m sure it’s amazing if the meals are any indication. We will definitely return to Mare e Monte. Thank you, Prince, for opening in San Antonio.
I had the Insalata Primavera and Sole Oreganata. They were both amazing and large portions. Bread also accompanied the meal. The service was excellent. They do not take reservations. We got there at 5:30 on a Friday and had no problem getting a table for 4. At 6:30 people were waiting to be seated.
The food delicious, the bread at the beginning 10/10
This was our first visit and won't be the last. We walked in and the atmosphere was just amazing. We were greeted with smiles and they were so welcoming and so pleasant. Our waiter went out of his way to make sure that we were taken care of promptly and brought us fresh bread and dipping oil. The food was amazing and freshly prepared. The chef even came by our table to make sure everything was to our liking. Just a wonderful relaxing meal!. Would definitely go back. The Ceasars salad was very good. Dessert was tiramsu again just wonderful.
When we first walked in the place it was very pleasant. From the lighting to the tables, The atmosphere was very pleasant. It felt like being home with family. Are server was on the spot with everything as busy as she was handling both sides. She was always making sure our water was filled, our bread was on the table and our order was taking care of. The dish took a bit longer than expected. But I didn't mind that the owner's wife was absolutely amazing. And offered us a free glass of wine while we waited.
What a wonderful experience at Mare e Monte. From the excellent service from Lukcky to the enthusiasm of Prince. What a welcoming experience. The Insalata Primavera was big enough for the two of us. We both enjoyed the complimentary wine. I had the Pollo e Monte which was full of flavor. The fresh bread and Tiramisu for dessert was fantastic. Best of all was the feeling of having the staff treat us as if it was our house minus the clean up. What a refreshing experience having the owner share his love for this country and his guests. Bravo!
The food and service was top notch. The staff was efficient and friendly. The portions were big. The bread, oil and herbs was very tasty. The owner stopped by our table to check on us and insisted on a free glass of wine to pair with our entrees. We will definitely be back!
From the moment we stepped into this charming Italian restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. Jesse, our server, was phenomenal. His warm demeanor and attentive service set the tone for a wonderful evening. The owner even took the time to introduce himself, making us feel genuinely welcome and adding a personal touch that is often missing in dining experiences.
Now, let’s talk about the food—oh, the food! As an Italian family, we have high standards, and this restaurant exceeded every one of them. We started with the appetizers, each dish a delightful prelude to what was to come. The calamari was tender and perfectly seasoned, a true testament to the chef's skill.
Moving on to the main courses, the pasta was nothing short of spectacular. The Bronx Apollo Parmagiana was AMAZING. You could taste the freshness in every bite, and the sauces were rich without being overwhelming. Each dish was crafted with care and attention to detail, making it hard to choose a favorite.
And then came dessert—if you think you’ve had good rum cake, think again! It was the perfect balance of chocolate, cherry, and rum bliss, and we found ourselves savoring each bite.
The bread served with our meal was light and airy, the ideal accompaniment to our feast. It’s clear that every element of the dining experience is carefully considered here.
We left with full hearts and even fuller stomachs, already planning our next visit. This restaurant has earned a special place in our family’s dining rotation, and we can’t wait to bring our friends and family along to share in this incredible experience. If you’re looking for authentic Italian cuisine that feels like home, look no further. You won’t be disappointed!
We ordered the meatballs, calamari, lobster ravioli, and Bronx pollo parmigiana. Everything was delicious! The bread was amazing! It had to be freshly baked. They also must make their pastas from scratch, so they are better than any pasta you’ll get anywhere else. Also, the owner was so kind. He stopped by every table to check in and make sure everyone was enjoying their food. He seemed genuinely interested in anything the guests had to say, so he could improve the restaurant. The restaurant is small, so I would definitely go early if you can. It seemed to fill up around dinner time. I’ll definitely be back!
5 stars is not enough!
Five of us had lunch there and every dish was authentically prepared Italian, and delicious. Presentation of the food displayed their attention to detail. Fresh bread was never-ending. Service from the entire staff was over the top attentive.
Update: Went for dinner today and again, attentive service and delicious food. My spouse had the Sole Oregenato with spinich/asparagus risotto. 😋
I was expecting to love this place because of the great reviews and it is located close to my house. I love that I can get great food and service close to home. The bread was wonderful and the dipping oil was light and flavorful... they should sell it. My chicken picatta was very good as was the shrimp appetizer
It was good, i had the veal. My only observation is the veal breading was not crispy like my Italian grandmother makes. I would dine here again.
I recently dined at Mare e Monte Italian Restaurant and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The squid ink pasta was perfectly cooked and bursting with rich, savory flavors. The chicken piccata was equally delightful, with tender chicken and a zesty, tangy sauce. The fresh salad complemented the meal beautifully, and the complimentary wine of our choice was a lovely touch that made our evening even more special. The bread was warm and delicious, perfect for sopping up every last bit of sauce. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the service was lovely—attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Mare e Monte has truly captured the essence of Italian cuisine, and I can't wait to return!
My mom took me here for lunch yesterday for my birthday. I picked it because of great reviews, and I wanted to try somewhere new. The reviews were correct! So worth the 20+ minute drive.
5 stars! Delicious food, great service, and nice atmosphere (very clean, simple, and cozy with quietly playing Italian music in the background, as to elevate the experience but not overpower).
We were seated right away by a friendly and smiling young man. When our waiter, Jesse, came to the table, he was great! He was very sweet, professional, and answered our questions. He made sure our drinks were filled the entire time, and he verified what we ordered to make sure it was to our liking. He also genuinely smiled the entire time, as did other staff! I love when people enjoy (or at least act like they enjoy) what they do for a living. That’s rare nowadays.
Our food was fresh, hot, and delicious. We received a basket of sliced bread and olive oil when we ordered. We both ordered the Bronx Pollo Parmigiana (I believe was the name). It was two nice sized pieces of lightly breaded chicken with fettuccine Alfredo. It should be enough for a person to eat the entire plate and be completely full, but I had leftovers for a second meal. Jesse came out and packaged my leftovers in front of me. We were too full to have dessert.
Before we left, either the owner or manager greeted us and verified that we enjoyed our meal. Everyone there was great. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. The genuine kindness and joy just put it over the top for us. We will definitely be back soon and bring more family! Thank you for such a great dining experience 💛
This restaurant is special due to its attention to the fine details of preparation. The complimentary bread and olive oil with herbs was light and refreshing. I had an artichoke appetizer with prosciutto. The artichokes were roasted but not burnt. The main course was fish in a lemon butter sauce served with shrimp on top, for an extra charge. The shrimp was seasoned just enough to compliment the flavor of the shrimp and grilled for a crisp, but not burnt, texture. The lemon butter was flavored with lemon zest to give a creamy sauce with a hint of lemon that didn't make your mouth pucker. The fish was flaky, but not mushy.
My critical feedback has less to do with the food and more to do with expectations and atmosphere.
The decor feels like it's on a budget and the restaurant lacks the cozy, relaxing feeling that you want when dining out. It is a new restaurant (opened 3 months ago) in a strip mall, so I'm not sure much else can be expected.
I ordered a diet Coke, which was brought to me in a can. In a restaurant with $20+ dishes, I was expecting there to be a soda fountain and free refills. It would be nice to see this added in the future.
There is also a credit card fee, which again, just isn't customary and came as a surprise.
But overall, and definitely the biggest takeaway from the experience, was how refreshing it was to come to a restaurant where the dishes were well thought out and precisely prepared. Overall, I had a great experience and will be coming back. Hopefully they will continue to provide great food and service and be able to move or build out the location to be more representative of the quality of the food.
This was some of the best food I've had! I recently took a trip to Italy and I cam confidently say this restaurant is legit! I had the picatta. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and the lemon sauce was light. My dad had the sole. I'm very picky about fish dishes but it was amazing! The fish was light and flaky. The risotto was better than what I had in Italy! My niece got the penne vodka. It was a little too spicy for her (she's 9) but I loved it. We asked for a side of Marinara sauce to take away from the heat and it was perfect. Also, the Marinara sauce was just like one I had in Rome. It was simple yet flavorful and fresh tasting. I just enjoyed dipping my bread in it. We also had dessert. My niece loved the white chocolate strawberry tiramisu. I loved the chocolate cake! It was seriously the best chocolate cake I've had. It wasn't overly sweet. The owner came by and talked to us and asked how everything was. He was so passionate about his food. It was so inspiring to see an owner take so much pride in his art and actually take the time to talk to his customers. It truly reminded me of being back in Italy. 🥰
This is probably one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. It started with the bread, which was very fresh and delicious. My friends and I had the meatball appetizer and loved it. I had the lasagna, which couldn't have been better. I was disappointed when I walked out of the restaurant and realized that I wasn't in fact in a small Italian seaside town, but actually a shopping center on Huebner.
The food is amazing, and the team is very welcoming (also on top of refills). Looking forward to when they get their liquor license to see what cocktails they’ll have to offer.
Food:
Calamari fritti is a must have, the breading, the seasoning, and the marinara are fantastic.
The blueberry tart is perfectly balanced, though the chocolate sauce it’s plated with is aesthetically pleasing it takes away from the flavor.
Had the Bronx veal parmigiano and lamb chops entrees - my companion and I loved the veal, and she was a big fan of the lamb chops.
Service: we went during end peak dinner hours on a Thursday. Occupancy was around 75%, kitchen was backed up and we had to wait a while for our entrees but it was worth the wait. The host and server were very pleasant, and the team works together to ensure you have what you need throughout your meal.
Atmosphere: the music choice was lovely, the menus introduction helps establish expectations in flavor, and the tables and floors were very neat and tidy. Why a 4 on atmosphere?
The light curtain in the floor to ceiling windows of the front of the restaurant did not do justice for controlling the glare of the evening sun, and the banisters are in need of after hours dusting.
Overall: would (and will) definitely return. There are many more items we’re looking forward to trying (like the strawberry tiramisu and the pasta dishes), and the owner or manager who’s checking on guests is very friendly.
From the moment we walked in the staff made sure we were welcomed. The food starting with the bread and olive oil dip then chicken Marsala was excellent. It was our first time eating there but will not be the last.
Outstanding service, modern decor, nice music, excellent food. Love the different twists on the caprese salad… burrata and greens….grilled chicken inthe piccatta… and the pasta al nero… I wiped the bowl clean with the last of the bread. Oh… and the salted caramel chocolate cake…. Yee haw!!! Well be back Prince!!!
The greeting at the door is fantastic! Great customer service! The bread is delicious , and the food is exceptional.
Service, ambiance and food was amazing, will definitely be back asap! Had a wonderful time celebrating my husband’s birthday. Was seated immediately on a Saturday night & served fresh bread with olive oil. Wine was paired perfectly & food tasted out of this world, will dream about the food tonight.
A life-changing experience. Every delectable dish was prepared so perfectly, it was a symphony in my mouth. Each bite of the pollo parmigiana was beautifully tender, enveloped in a thin, crispy crust of breading, infused with a soft cloud of zesty citrus, and grounded by its robust, meaty foundation. The service? Impeccable. The atmosphere? Unmatched. The owner personally greets each guest with the enthusiasm of a man who has found his true passion in life. Words feebly describe the inspiring meal that Mare e Monte guarantees. You won’t be disappointed.
Don’t let the strip mall setting throw you off. This place is the real deal. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The bread—chewy crust but soft interior, so good! Kalamari appetizer, chicken piccata, sole oreganata, all wonderful. Don’t skip dessert- blueberry lemon tart and white chocolate tiramisu (strawberries and white chocolate, no mocha or coffee flavor) were both amazing (the tiramisu was to die for.) Every one of the staff were friendly and solicitous. We’ll be back!
We went here after reading about it quite a bit on the SA restaurant page on F’book.
We started with the Calamari Al’Arribbata. That was a nice way to start off a meal, but we also wanted to save room for the mains. I wish that they had a half order but still it was very good.
The LOML (Love Of My Life) had the Sole Oreganata. She said it was one of the best meals she’s ever had in her life! What I tasted of it, I agree that it was excellent. Soft and buttery fish that just melted in the mouth.
Meanwhile I had the Bronx Pollo Parmigiana. TWO chicken cutlets pounded thin, breaded, and covered with mozzarella and parmigiana cheese also the arrabbiata sauce with the cherry peppers (which had a flavor similar to little banana peppers) which worked well (imo) as the little bit of acid helped cut through the cheesiness.
For dessert we shared a White Chocolate Strawberry Tiramisu and the LOML had a coffee. At first I was a little afraid that it would be too sweet but that wasn’t the case at all, just the right amount, to help cleanse the palate after a great meal.
We will be back and, I at least, will be trying other things from the menu. On a side note as we were leaving, the manager or owner came up to us and thanked us for coming in and shook our hands. I thought that was a very thoughtful and kind gesture on his part.
Great food and service. Prince knows what he is doing here!
Friendly work luncheon today. We started with calamari and meatballs. Both delicious.
Two of us had lobster ravioli and it was wonderful. I cleaned the sauce up out of the dish with some bread!
Chocolate caramel came with sea salt was a great dessert.
Not cheap but not outrageous. Would definitely go again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here. The entire staff as well as the owner were welcoming and kind. Very quick service. The food was fresh, hot and absolutely a delight. I had the veal parmesean with fettuccine alfredo. Crispy breading, tender veal, cooked to perfection. The Alfredo sauce was not too thick, perfectly coating the fettuccine. I chose the strawberry tiramisu which was a refreshing twist on the classic. We will definitely be back!
We went to Male E Monte last night for my wife’s birthday. The owner made us feel so welcome, almost like family. Truly a kind person and the kind of restauranteur who deserves your hard earned money. The ambiance is lovely for being located in a newer strip mall. Felt classy and intimate with mood lighting on the table, and white table cloths. The food was excellent, and in my opinion priced too low for what it was. The complimentary bread was fresh and warm, and the herbed olive oil was alive with rosemary. The grilled artichoke appetizer was wonderful, with contrasting temperatures, flavors and textures. For our entree, my wife had the chicken parm which was amazing. It does have some heat to it, so if you’re sensitive to spice I would consider choosing a different menu item. We found it to be perfect and delicious. I had the lamb chops. The lamb was cooked to my preferred temperature, with a great sear and a nice clean flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were an excellent pairing. We took a lasagna to go for my mother who couldn’t join us, and it was delicious as well. They included some bread which was a nice touch. Finally, a complimentary dessert to end the evening was beautiful.
If you love Italian food, PLEASE go experience Mare E Monte. They just opened 3 weeks ago and they deserve your patronage. We will absolutely be back!
Me and my partner decided to have dinner last night and couldn’t figure out what spot was next on our list. We had a great craving for pasta and have before had success with finding good authentic Italian restaurants in San Antonio (surprisingly). We stumbled across Mare E Monte on Google and the reviews were exceptional and the pictures looked up to par to match.
When we arrived the restaurant itself wasn’t what I was expecting, in all the good ways though! It was a newly opened brick and mortar style establishment and we were very impressed from the minute we walked in.
Mind you I had called ahead to ask if service animals were allowed and without hesitation Prince, the owner said yes, my pup could come along.
Once we sat down the whole staff was very attentive and asked plenty of questions. They made us feel right at home and asked for our honest feedback with everything being brought out.
We ordered the Calamari all’Arrabbiata which was hot, fresh, held its crispiness when tossed in the marinara.
They did give us complimentary wine (white or red) on them since they cannot sell any beer, wine or liquor for the time being. It was amazing and great touch to our date.
I ordered the shrimp fettuccine, my partner ordered chicken penne Alfredo,
Must we say both of those dishes did not disappoint whatsoever. the sauce was tasted homemade, light, buttery, the shrimp and chicken were cooked perfectly. They were hot, they were fresh, and we actually ate so fast that by the time we were full our plates were still hot! Not to mention the bread and oil duo hit the spot as well. Ardit, out waiter was checking on us consistently making sure everything was good, our cups were full, and our food was to our liking.
*AND THEY GAVE US FREE DESSERT ON THEM!!*
I hope this restaurant has a successful journey here in San Antonio. I can definitely see good things coming from such hard work. Check them out and show them some love. They are going to blow up. Shoutout Prince and his whole team.
Mare E Monte Italian Restaurant is a culinary masterpiece, deserving of a Michelin star.
I had the privilege of indulging in the Bronx Pollo Parmigiana, which exceeded my expectations. The lightly breaded chicken was pan-fried to perfection, topped with a rich vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella, and cherry peppers, served alongside Fettuccine Alfredo. The combination was divine.
But the true showstopper was the Pasta Lasagne al Forno, a dish that redefined the classic lasagna. Homemade pasta sheets were layered with a rich Italian sausage Bolognese, mozzarella, ricotta, and béchamel, creating a harmonious balance of flavors and textures.
Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to traditional Italian cuisine, using only the freshest ingredients to create a truly authentic experience. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, making for a memorable dining experience.
In short, Mare E Monte Italian Restaurant is a must-visit destination for any food enthusiast in San Antonio. With its commitment to traditional Italian cuisine and exceptional service, it's no wonder this restaurant deserves a Michelin star. I eagerly await my next visit to indulge in more of their culinary masterpieces!
Recommended for: Special occasions, romantic evenings, and Italian food enthusiasts.
I hope that this little jewel does well here! So much to love - fantastic location, super attentive and friendly service and great food! Really enjoyed my chicken piccata and the delicious bread! Keep up the great work and best wishes!
I had the Gluten Sensitive salmon. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. The gluten free bread was an unexpected bonus! The atmosphere was very romantic. Picture a “candle” lit moon light dinner with Italian tunes playing in the background. The designer did a fabulous job creating a quaint and elegant atmosphere. The service was great! The owner, Prince, was phenomenal! He made us feel appreciated and welcomed. I highly recommend this restaurant.
